The Best Case Scenario for the Boston Celtics

As of right now, the Celtics have it all and the fan base is completely buying into it. Since Boston fans are in high hopes considering Boston now has the one seed, enough money to sign a free agent to a maximum deal this summer and also the potential for a number one pick. So let’s play the game and give the Celtics the benefit of the doubt. If this does work out, Danny Ainge would easily be considered GM of the year.

2017 Playoffs: This is where the journey for GM of the year starts. The Celtics are poised to make a big playoff run especially if the steal the #1 seed from Lebron and the Cavs. The first round should be a breeze regardless of seeding or their opponents. None of the teams fighting for playoff contention can consistently score on the Celtics defense and so far, they have not had an answer for Isaiah Thomas. The Celtics big free agent Al Horford has been playing his best basketball of the season and the team seems to be coming together. The second round should not be much harder than the first. A healthy Celtics starting 5 has proven to be lethal, especially with Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown and others coming off the bench. Besides John Wall and Bradley Beal, the Wizards do not have much more to compete with a healthy Celtics starting 5. Even though Demar Derozan is playing great, Kyle Lowry is a huge question mark going into the playoffs. Even if he is healthy, there is no telling how good he will be returning from injury. The Celtics should be able to get buy either teams regardless of who they play. Most likely this leaves an Eastern Conference Finals matchup with the Cavs, with home court advantage. Even if they don’t get past the struggling Cavs, they should put up a good fight. A competitive matchup in the Eastern Conference Final exceeds any expectations for this Celtics team.

2017 Draft: This is where Danny’s draft picks really start to kick in. Since this is best case scenario, I am assuming Boston lands the #1 pick. Planning for both the short term and long term, keeping the pick would be the best thing to do. Drafting the most talented player in the draft in Markelle Fultz would be the best move. An offensive powerhouse, Fultz has the ability to change the whole offense of Boston for the better. With a 6 10’ wingspan, the defensive part of his game has great potential. Getting Markelle Fultz can set up your future 10 years down the road, and you still have the Nets 2018 pick.

2017 Offseason: The Celtics now have huge momentum from the previous season, Markelle Fultz and enough cap space for another max free agent. The free agent on most peoples minds? Gordon Hayward. The Utah Jazz star played under Brad Stevens at Butler and has been known to be a very team oriented player. This addition seems to fit the Celtics perfectly and will leave them with a big three that will already have good chemistry. With a depleting Cavs team who isn’t getting any younger, the Celtics will be gunning for an Eastern Conference top seed for years to come.

2018 and beyond: With the addition of Gordon Hayward, the Celtics might officially have the most potent roster in the NBA. With a great starting 5 and a bench filled with depth, Boston could take any team in the NBA head on in a 7 game series. They will ride out the remaining 3 years of the Horford deal with competing for a championship ever year. Markelle Fultz and Jaylen Brown will develop into studs of the NBA with the help of Marcus Smart and the 2018 draft pick whoever that may be. 5-7 years from now, Boston will resign their star picks and form a homegrown big 3 that will dominate the NBA. Be ready Celtics fans, the duck boats could be coming sooner than you think.
