Johnson Gets the Start in the Series opener Vs. Toronto

Today the Red Sox optioned Ben Taylor to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for starting pitcher Brian Johnson who will make the start tonight against the Blue Jays. The @26 year old only has one major league start where he gave up four runs in four innings of work. Thus far in Pawtucket he had posted a 1.69 ERA in 10 innings with 14 strikeouts.

Earlier in the month manager, John Farrell, had said Kyle Kendrick would be the First option out of the minor leagues to make a start but both of his minor league starts have been anything but impressive posting a 10.38 ERA in 13 innings of work . Kendrick had a very good spring training, but that has yet to translate to the regular season.

Pedroia will get the day off as Marco Hernandez will play second base and bat ninth. It’s a much needed break for Dustin as there are a lot of important devision series coming up these next few weeks. I also like Herandez myself. The lefty batter has batted .261 but i believe he could be an above .280 hitter with more at bats.

Brian Johnson vs Marcus Stroman isn’t exactly the pitching matchup you thought would be happening, but buckle your damn seat belts because Johnson is more than likely taking a no-hitter into the 7th inning at the very least, if not a perfect game.

I expect the Red Sox to take at least two games out of the three game set, i could get into some statistics but ill just keep it simple and tell you that the Blue Jays are playing worse than Hellen Kellers softball team in my rec league back home.  They are 2-10…. I’m no math magician, but that doesn’t look like a winning record to me.

Marcus you brought the World Baseball Classic Championship to the US back and for that I’m extremely grateful. Hell, I was chanting USA all night  until my neighbors got pissed (pretty sure they were Puerto Rican so they may have just been a tad salty). With all due respect, i hope you get lit tonight and the Red Sox get deep into your bullpen which affects Blue Jays pitching the rest of the series.
