Paul George – $200 Million Dollar Man?

It’s in the media’s hands; 5 words as an American you never want to hear uttered, unless your Paul George in 2017. George was given the Designated Player Extension that was added in the last CBA agreement to help teams keep current players in their city. The extension gives any player in the final year of their rookie contract that was either acquired or drafted an incentive to win MVP, Defensive Player of the Year or make any of the 3 All NBA teams to receive a max extension. If any awards are won that max extension is offered, in George’s case it’s $70 million more than what his offer would
of been, bringing his total offer over $200 million for 6 seasons.  The max any other NBA team can offer is roughly $120 million over 4 seasons.

George had expressed in the past that he wants to play for a “winner” and the pacers haven’t done much to build a supporting cast around him. There have also been rumors swirling that he will end up with the Lakers after declining contract extension with the Pacers. It will be interesting to see if the media votes him to the All NBA team “just because” or if he will be left off since he might not be a top 15 player in the NBA. In any event Paul George is in a great position to make a lot of money this off-season, will he stay in Indiana or sign elsewhere?
