WWE Week in Review

This week on all three main shows (Raw, Smackdown, and NXT) we had quite a few new storylines come to fruition with the newly acquired “shakeup” superstars making impacts. On Raw it appears that Braun Strowman is “the guy” that you don’t want to mess with.  He destroyed the Golden Truth and Kalisto backstage in two separate segments  before being shoulder tackled by the Big Show.  This of course led to a Strowman vs Show main event and it didn’t disappoint.  They stole the show when Strowman superplexed Big Show off the top ropes and broke the ring!  If this is any indication of how good a Braun/Lesnar program will be, I am all in.

The Miz and Dean Ambrose program will be close if not better than Cena/Miz feud. Dean Ambrose is still the Intercontinental champion and we should see a title match announced for Payback next Monday on Raw.

My favorite women’s superstar Alexa Bliss picked up right where she left off on Smackdown, as a contender for the Raw Women’s Championship.  We will see some great matches between her and Sasha, but right now her vs Bayley is the direction. Losing Charlotte was big, but adding Alexa and Mickie James helped in a big way.

The rest:

  • Elias Sampson made another appearance backstage.
  • Seth Rollins vs Samoa Joe is set for Payback
  • Gallows and Anderson defeated Enzo and Cass(thankfully and sorry I am over Enzo and Cass together).

On Smack down we found out that Jinder Mahal is the number 1 contender for the WWE Championship.  Let that sink in…Smackdown the “land of opportunity” has Jinder Mahal as a headliner for their main title, while Kevin Owens and AJ Styles are battling for the US Championshp.  Jinder with the aid of the Bollywood Boys was able to pin Sami Zayn and will face Randy Orton for the WWE Championship in the future.

Charlotte Flair is here and the former Raw Women’s Champion is looking to become the first ever women to have held the Raw and Smackdown Women’s Championshp.  Charlotte didn’t waste anytime in demanding a title shop and GM Shane McMahon set up a match between her and current Smackdown Women’s Champion Naomi in non-title match.  If Charlotte pinned or submitted Naomi, Charlotte would be dubbed thenjumber one contender.  A really nice match between the two ended with Charlotte hitting “natural selection” and pinning Naomi to become next up for the title.

The mid-card, which had 3 of the best performers and promo stars; Kevin Owens, AJ Styles, and Baron Corbin.  Don’t ask me why the US Title hunt has the best talent in the men’s division right now, but I trust Smackdown and their creative team because the show has been far superior since the brand split in storylines.  Corbin ended up challenging Styles to a singles match, which was a great match to watch.  Styles ultimately won by countout.  Hopefully we see a triple threat match at some point for Owens title, but for now we sit back and wait.

The rest:

  • No Shinsuke Nakamura 😩
  • America Alpha’s lost to the Colons(Primo and Epico) and further showed how weak the Smackdown tag division is.

NXT was all about the steel cage match between Tye Dillinger and Eric Young.  Although this match was taped a few weeks ago and first aired last night didn’t change the hype surrounding it.  This would be Tye Dillinger’s last match in NXT since he is now part of the Smackdown Roster.  If you didn’t get a chance to watch this one, do yourself a favor and watch!  Not only was the match great in the ring but both superstars performed moves off the top of the cage in true NXT fashion, it was awesome.

SAnitY members came down to the ring after about ten minutes to help Eric Young.  The Perfect 10 was able ward off all 3 members of SAnitY and exited the cage with all 3 plus Eric Young locked inside.  Roderick Stong, Ruby Riot, and Apollo Ohno also came out to aid Tye Dillinger and hoisted Tye on their shoulders for his final send off  from NXT after the victory.

Bobby Roode came to the ring during the opener and stated to the NXT universe that he ran Shinsuke Nakamura off and there is no one that can beat him in his NXT.  After about 5 minutes of blabbing, Hideo Itami made an appearance.  Itami slapped Roode in the face and both men take off their suit jackets, while Roode was still jawing, Itami grabbed Roode and hit him with the GTS (in a suit!).  This will be the next NXT title feud and Itami is healthy!

The rest;

  • Women’s division tag match between Liv Morgan and Aliyah vs Billie Kay and Peyton Royce.  Aliyah pinned Peyton Royce for the win.  The match was ok, but the women’s division sans Ember Moon and champion Asuka is pretty blah.
  • Andre Cien Almas participated in a match; pretty blasé and I am not of fan of him or his character.

This week had its ups and downs but overall i would give it a “B-” for all three shows. Next week we have the Raw go home show for Payback.
