On Tuesday, April 25th, the Los Angeles Dodgers called up top 1B prospect in Cody Bellinger. The question that remains to be seen is where will Bellinger play upon his arrival. Already in the lineup Tuesday evening, Bellinger is starting in Left Field. With ailing injuries for the LA outfield, it has given the top prospect a great chance to walk right in and claim a spot in the lineup. Certainly nobody expects the primary first baseman to take over everyday duties from the great Adrian Gonzalez, however his talent seems to be a fit for the lineup on an everyday basis.
Drafted out of high school in the 2013 Amateur Draft, Bellinger has quickly posted some eye popping numbers in AAA Oklahoma City. In 18 games, he has 23 hits, 5 homeruns, 15 RBI’s, and sports a .343 average.
The time for Bellinger appears to be now, however it is up to him to relish this opportunity just like any other prospect, and in his case be versatile by playing multiple positions. The Dodgers seem high on the 21 year old, and as the #7 prospect in baseball according to Baseball America, so does the rest of the league.
