IT’s Max Contract

In my honest opinion, I believe that the Celtics should not give Isaiah Thomas a max contract and here’s why:

First off, I would like for it to be known that I think IT is a fantastic basketball player who will end up getting max money when it comes to his next contract. He has consistently over performed at the offensive end and continues to lead the Celtics in the playoffs. Keep word: offensive.

Unfortunately at 5 foot 9 and “185 pounds” (which is my exact build and I’m chubby), Isaiah Thomas is a defensive liability. While consistently pouring in 30 points, he leaves the Celtics at a disadvantage on the defensive end when we are playing a talented point guard. For example in this series, we have John Wall and Bradley Beal at the opposing guard positions. From what I’ve seen Avery Bradley covers John Wall most of the time which leaves IT covering Beal or even Otto Porter/Kelly Oubre. Fuck them by the way. But Beal can just shoot right over the top of IT (now whether that goes in or not). As you can see, this is a serious problem as Bradley Beal is considered one of the best shooters in the entire NBA.

My point is, Why pay someone a max deal if they cannot contribute on nearly half the game? I wouldn’t be terribly disappointed if the Celtics gave him a max contract. As I said earlier I think IT is a tremendous offensive player, I believe he is a legitimate primary scorer on any team. It’s just his overall value to a team is not as significant as most max-deal players. That being said IT is definitely worth close to top dollar with what he brings to the table and certainly embodies what it means to play in the City of Boston.

But Isaiah has been an underdog almost his entire life and if he is able to improve his defensive game then I hope the Celtics give him the max contract that he deserves. But either way some team out there will definitely offer IT a max-deal, right now I just hope it’s not the Celtics.
