Blount is looking to return

The New England Patriots have issued a May 9 tender to free-agent running back LeGarrette Blount, according to a league source. The Patriots are looking to keep him after they offer him a May 9th tender which means if he is unsigned by July 22 he can then only play for the Pats for the 2017 season. Now if he does sign a contract with another team then the Patriots do in fact get a compensatory 2018 draft pick. This is a great move by the Pats because if he doesn’t sign then they get more depth at the running back position but if he does sign then they get yet another draft pick for the 2018 draft year.

The tender that the Pats put on him, carries a value of 110 percent of a player’s base salary from the year before, which would amount to $1.1M for Blount. That is a great price for Blount especially since he lead the league with 18 touchdowns last year and could be nice depth running back. Now the contract talks were supposed to heat up since the RFA deadline has passed but since the Pats put this tender on him it might make the teams think twice. This leaves the door wide open for LG and the Pats, anything could happen and if he is unsigned by another team then the Pats have 7 running backs on the roster and the pre season should be interesting. I think if that does happen then the people on the hot seat would be DJ Foster, Rex Burkhead and Brandon Bolden but because Bolden is a vet in the Pats system then he is probably safe. Foster is looking at another year on the practice squad, while White, Lewis and Gillisee all look to be getting action. The Pats are loading up for another run for a championship as Brady’s window is closing and he wants ring number 6.
