Tom Brady: Concussion and Curse

As many people saw a few weeks back, Tom Brady is going to be on the cover of Madden 18. I’m actually very surprised he hasn’t been on the cover in years past, but that isn’t the point. The point is should Patriot fans be worried? Most people are well aware of the Madden curse, and if you aren’t it’s this: a player will have a great year, then be on the cover of the Madden video game, and the next year that player either gets hurt or has a down year. So you can see where the concern is… The Patriots best player, who just led one of the greatest comebacks in the history of sports, is on the cover of Madden…

I have never been one to believe in ghosts or curses and things of the sort, so I am not terribly worried. I recently saw a video on Facebook that showed all of the Madden cover players with stats from the season before their Madden cover and the season after it. To my surprise, a good majority of players came back and had great seasons after being on the cover, such as Calvin Johnson and OBJ. Of course there are players like, (sadly) Gronk, who were featured on the Madden cover and ended up getting hurt the next season. Scenarios like Gronk’s is a reason many believe the Madden Curse to be real. Brady does not seem to be bothered by curse talk, as he posted a video on social media breaking mirrors and walking under ladders. I really think Brady believes that if he puts in the work in the offseason to improve, and not settle for what he accomplished last year, than no “curse” will fall onto him.

However, one thing I am concerned about is the latest concussion talk circulating Brady. Brady’s wife, Gisele, recently was in a video and said Tom suffered a concussion last season and then went on to say he gets concussions all the time. Is this something to worry about? At 39 almost 40, Brady has seemingly found new life in the later part of his career. But a brain injury is a lot different than a knee injury. I really hope this does not affect Brady, not only short-term, but long-term after he retires from football.

One last thing… #CsUP
