Ex Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire Chooses Florida

It has been released early this morning that Malik Zaire, former ND quarterback, will head to Florida as a graduate transfer.

Although Zaire’s career at Notre Dame never really took off due to the season ending injury he suffered at Virginia in 2015, he still showed flashes of how great he could have been for the Fighting Irish.

Early in the 2015 season when Zaire was starting, he was going off. That Texas game at Notre Dame Zaire threw for 313 yards and 3 touchdowns. Then the next week he had 115 yards and 1 touchdown before leaving that game early vs Virginia due to his ankle injury.

In his fighting Irish career he is 58/98 with 816 yards and 6 touchdowns to ZERO interceptions.

He then lost the starting job to Deshone Kizer, who I think is overrated even as an ND fan, and came off the bench in 2016 which led to a 4-8 Notre Dame record.

As a Notre Dame fan, I think Zaire should have been starting again in 2016 and not Kizer. I think Kizer only had one game where he didn’t throw an interception all of last year. Zaire hasn’t thrown one in his career.

Nonetheless, this transfer decision stings because now the Irish are left in a QB deficiency with Brandon Wimbush looking to start. However, I wish Zaire nothing but the best.
