One year ago, America exhaled as one when they watched the Golden State Warriors choke away the NBA Finals they had in the bag. Yes, the 73-win Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 Finals lead with the unanimous MVP on their roster.
The great L on this day became the biggest win for the internet ever. To this day, i still can’t read twitter mentions on SportCenter’s twitter account without seeing a 3-1 joke.
I still have this as my screen saver:
Golden State did not just blow a 3-1 lead, they did it in the most embarrassing fashion ever. The block, behind the back pass to MC Hammer, LBJ’s blocks on Curry, Curry’s ejection, Green’s suspension; it was fucking iconic. Here is a compilation of their 4th quarter choke in game 7 with some fantastic background music: it is worth a watch from my personal account:
It all started in game 5, when Kyrie and LeBron James both dropped 41 points in that game; don’t sit there and coin the excuses “Draymond was suspended” or “its rigged for money, I saw it live myself!” “Bogut was hurt!” “Curry was hurt” they got their fucking lunch handed to them.
They got absolutely ripped in the most comic fashion in sports history. As a Red Sox fan this is hard to say, but I think the Warriors got embarrassed more than the ’04 Yankees, the Yankees just lost; these Warriors made choking an art form.
It was a great night, I myself had the party of a lifetime with my friends after, JR Smith was ripping Henny bottles, LeBron’s chase down block, and of course Watching Ayesha Curry get crucified on twitter. Personally, it was the most enjoyable time I have ever had watching basketball, it was number 2 all time for me in all sports behind the Patriots comeback. Here is my favorite tweet thread of the whole night:
To all Warrior haters out there like myself; enjoy this day, watch the highlights until a tear hits your eye, and pray Paul George becomes a Cavalier. My gift to you, here is a thread of my favorite Warrior pictures and memes:
I predicted the comeback:
