My 2017 NHL Mock Draft to get you ready for tonight

Here is my projected mock draft from Selections 1-31. Enjoy!

  1. New Jersey Devils: Nico Hischier, Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL (Best player in draft. High-end speed and skill)
  2. Philadelphia Flyers: Nolan Patrick, Brandon Wheat Kings, WHL (Would have been #1 draft prospect but injuries made him fall)
  3. Dallas Stars: Miro Heiskanen, HIFK, Finland. (Swift two-way defenceman)
  4. Colorado Avalanche: Cale Makar, Brooks Bandits, AJHL. (Elite puck-moving defenceman with blazing speed with an already solid junior resume)
  5. Vancouver Canucks: Cody Glass, Portland Winterhawks, WHL.
  6. Las Vegas Golden Knights: Gabe Vilardi, Windsor Spitfires, OHL. (Good board player with a lethal shot. Could be NHL ready).
  7. Arizona Coyotes: Elias Pettersson, Timra, Sweden. (All around offensive stud but needs to get bulkier)
  8. Buffalo Sabres: Owen Tippett, Mississauga Steelheads, OHL. (Arguably the best skater and goal scoring player in the draft)
  9. Detroit Red Wings: Martin Necas, Brno, Czech Republic. (Can skate fluidly and has a good shot)
  10. Florida Panthers: Michael Rasmussen, Tri-City Americans, WHL. (Can go to the net and has a leadership mentality)
  11. Los Angeles Kings: Timothy Liljegren, Rogle, Sweden. (Kings needs a defensive prospect. He fits the bill).
  12. Carolina Hurricanes: Casey Mittelstadt, Eden Prairie, MIN-HS. (He had a poor NHL combine but he flashes the skill level to be a top scorer in NHL)
  13. Las Vegas Golden Knights, via Winnipeg Jets: Nick Suzuki, Owen Sound Attack, OHL. (If you are an analytics nerd, he is your guy)
  14. Tampa Bay Lightning: Klim Kostin, Dynamo, KHL, Russia. (He is a typical power forward, but the whole Russian darting the NHL is a concern. May fit well with Kucherov)
  15. Las Vegas Golden Knights, via New York Islanders: Juuso Valimaki, Tri-City Americans, WHL. (Funny character as well as solid offensive game)
  16. Calgary Flames: Kristian Vesalainen, Frolunda, Sweden, (May be a few years away from NHL duty, but led the U-18’s in scoring for his native Finland)
  17. Toronto Maple Leafs: Robert Thomas, London Knights, OHL. (Underrated player in draft class, won a Memorial Cup a couple years ago)
  18. Boston Bruins: Eeli Tolvanen, Sioux City, USHL. (Pure shooter that will shoot he puck from anywhere)
  19. San Jose Sharks: Erik Brannstrom, HV71, Sweden. (Gifted player and solid 2-way forward but needs to put on more size)
  20. St Louis Blues: Ryan Poehling, St Cloud St, NCAA. (Youngest player in the NCAA this year, may slip to 2nd round, but have him at 20)
  21. New York Rangers: Cal Foote, Kelowna Rockets. (Son of Adam Foote, defends like him as well but with more offensive upside)
  22. Edmonton Oilers: Lias Andersson, HV71, Sweden. (Not a flashy player, but very safe in his own zone and chip in offensively. Oilers need defensive players)
  23. Arizona Coyotes: Isaac Ratcliffe, Guelph Storm, OHL. (Even strength goal machine)
  24. Winnipeg Jets via Golden Knights via Columbus Blue Jackets: Conor Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie, OHL. (Has good puck possession and can put up points)
  25. Montreal Canadiens: Maxime Comtois, Victoriaville Tigres, QMJHL. (Big bodied left winger that can score and set up his teammates)
  26. Chicago Blackhawks: Henri Jokiharju, Portland Winterhawks, WHL. (Slick offensive defenseman who can move the puck and shoot it like a rocket. Blackhawks need a stud defensive prospect and Jokiharju fits the bill.
  27. St Louis Blues: Kailer Yamamoto, Spokane Chiefs, WHL. (A very gifted goal-scorer, reminiscent of Johnny Gaudreau. He makes players around him better and can score. He’s small, but will grow bigger.
  28. Ottawa Senators: Jake Oettinger, Boston University, NCAA. (Boasts ton of confidence and has good size for an NHL goaltender. Senators need a top goalie prospect in system and he fits bill)
  29. Dallas Stars via Anaheim Ducks: Nic Hague, Mississauga Steelheads, OHL. (Well liked by teammates and has a physical side to him. Skating needs work)
  30. Nashville Predators: Kole Lind, Kelowna Rockets, WHL. (Scored 30 goals in a tough league on a bad Kelowna team)
  31. Pittsburgh Penguins: Shane Bowers, Waterloo, USHL. (Shifty skater that can make plays. Playmaking Centerman potential.

And there is my mock draft. Hopefully, I am not too far off . We will find out tonight.
