In recent news the Celtics signed Gordon Hayward, who will be wearing Ray Allen’s old number and have now released Jordan, Mickey, and Jackson. The Celtics have begun a new era as only 40 percent of the roster that brought 53 wins and an appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals remains. There is a lot of new faces and names to learn as they try to take down the kings of the East, LeBron and the Cavs. Now almost everybody saw these roster moves coming whether you liked it or not. Most people would have rather gotten rid of Jae Crowder rather than Avery Bradley, but Bradley probably would have been gone next year anyways.
As it looks right now they have some very capable rookies and young kids on their roster as well. Semi Ojeleye has made a name for himself in the summer league and is looking to be on the roster since Mickey is now gone. Stevens has stated how much he likes this kid and how much defensive flexibility he brings to the game. He could fill the need defensively now that Bradley is gone. Also Ainge might have found an absolute gem in Jayson Tatum. He has looked unbelievable in summer league so far but don’t put too much stock in it because again it is only summer league. Then there is Jaylen Brown. There is no need for him to be in summer league anymore because he looks so dominant. He will for sure be a huge help to this new Celtics team. Another kid that could come in and help out is Ante Zizic. Now he hasn’t looked too good in summer league and has looked a bit slow going up and down the court. But he has room to improve and he should be getting some minutes in Steven’s new line up. The last guy is Abdel Nader and he has looked pretty good. He has handled the ball nicely and he should be on the roster this year. Don’t expect to see him to get too many minutes but he could get a few here and there to help him develop more.
Another thing that’s new about this team is the Brad Steven’s way. He has built a system where there is no more positions like the 1,2,3,4 and 5. There is only ball handlers, wings and the bigs. Now I think they could definitely use some help in the “bigs” area because their only decent guy is Al Horford. Now fans should see Baynes get some minutes because he will definitely help in the rebounding game. The Celtics still have some room to sign a veteran to a vet minimum so they could have a little bit more depth but this roster could possibly dethrone king LeBron.
