Alright, so last night did indeed show that Chris Sale is in fact human. He had one of his worst starts ever only going 5 innings while allowing 7 earned runs, 8 hits and only totaling 5 strikeouts. Even with this poor performance, is ERA is still sitting pretty.
But if anyone deserved to be bailed out for a poor performance, it was Chris Sale after all the times he got no support. And that’s exactly what happened.
After the Red Sox fell into a hole early trailing 5-0, the offense came around exploding for 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd thanks to a 3 run BOOMAH from Mitchy Moreland, RBI infield single from Brock Holt and then a Nunez double that drove in one more.
The Indians would once again reclaim the lead in the 5th after a 2 run homer from Encarnacion which made the score 7-5 Cleveland.
Boston would again storm back and actually take the lead 9-7 in the 6th inning after Mookie Betts had an RBI infield single and another 2 bagger from Nunez that drove in 3.
As if things couldn’t be set up more for the bullpen to redeem themselves, they blew it, including the newest member of the bullpen, Addison Reed. Reed would give up one run in the 8th and then surprisingly Kimbrel gave up 2 runs in the 9th to give the Indians the lead 10-9 and all seemed lost for the Red Sox.
Not so fast though, with 2 outs and 2 runners on, Christian Vazquez stepped to the plate. Then Vazquez saw his pitch and CLOBBERED the thing to nearly dead center for a walk off 3 run BOOMAH and we are dancing!
This 12-10 win for the Red Sox put the boys back in first place and showed exactly what this offense is capable of doing. Just got to have it more consistently.
But without anything else, Christian Vazquez, thank you and I love you for this. I will now be your #1 fan.
