Do the Patriots have a young stud on their hands?

For the past two practices, someone has really stood out for people. Devin Lucien is now a second year guy after being drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2016 draft. The coaches during this training camp have increased the amount of reps he is taking and is now catching balls from Jimmy G on the second team. Today during practice it was the perfect Bill Belichick teaching moment. It’s a sloppy and rainy day where the young guys have to fight through the weather conditions to make plays. Devin Lucien saw this challenge and surpassed it. On a play during the scrimmage, Jimmy G threw a ball up in the air and Lucien jumped up high towards the ball while twisting and caught the ball over second year guy Cyrus Jones. This is the second big play like this that Lucien has made and it is starting to leave an impression on the coaches and the fans. Now he could just end up being like Aaron Dobson and be a bust, but I’d like to hold on to my hopes and think that he could be the deep threat possiblity for the future quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo. Now it will be tough to make it on this roster since there is just so much depth at the wide receiver position right now, but he could be a part of the 53 man roster and just not dress for some of the games. Also, they could put him on the practice squad again and let him develop more with the young guys. The competition is tough for spots on this team and this story might heat up as we start to get into preseason games.
