Anyone else feel like preseason twitter is insufferable? This year it seems worse and I am not sure if it’s because people are really believing things they are tweeting or if they are trolling with their nonsense. Preseason is (Say it with me) an EXHIBITION.
Preseason is meaningless to anyone other than those in position battles and the stars who are trying to stay healthy by being off the field. We all know that the NFL season is grueling on these athletes and I am a believer that preseason is too long; and only another outlet for the owners to make an extra revenue.
I haven’t gone back years and years to prove the theory that stats in preseason are meaningless but let’s take a look at the 2016 preseason stats for QB, RB, and WR:
Is this a list of impact players that we really needed to worry about in 2016? Dak Prescott and Derek Henry are the only two names that pop out; the others were buried on the depth chart or starting at QB or WR for the Jets. So please, let’s refrain from anointing Jimmy Garappolo MVP, Cody Hollister the next Julian Edelman, and Corey Grant the presumed leading rusher and #1 fantasy draft pick this year. Also, the Jaguars aren’t going to win the Super Bowl (currently +5500 to win Super Bowl LII @ My Bookie).
Enjoy the preseason for what it is and not what you want it to be. Watch the 3rd and 4th on the depth charts battle and make plays, but also realize correlation to regular season is pretty much zilch unless your top player(s) get injured.
