Why the Buckeyes will win the 2017-2018 CFP

The college football season is almost upon us again and things at the top of the rankings look like they always do. Alabama and Ohio State are at the top of the rankings while the USC Trojans begin way too high in the rankings as fans wait for their inevitable collapse. As an Ohio State student, this article is going to be biased and I do not apologize for that. The Ohio State Buckeyes will be your 2017-2018 college football champions. They will take down the hated Crimson Tide and the Tide will not roll this year. After a disappointing 31-0 beating taken at the hands of Clemson, the Buckeyes have one thing on their mind: revenge. The Buckeyes continue to bring in more and more 5-star high school prospects and the team continues to get stronger. Here are 4 reasons the Buckeyes are going to win another championship.

  1. Quarterback- JT Barrett returns as the starting quarterback again for the Buckeyes. He is 26-4 in games started, twice throwing for more than 2,500 yards in a season. When Braxton Miller went down with a season-ending injury, Barrett stepped in with no starting experience and took the Buckeyes to the Big 10 Championship game before getting hurt against Michigan in the final game of the season allowing Cardale Jones to step in and work his magic. He started all the games last season and took them to another College Football Playoffs. He’s thrown for 69 touchdowns in his career and has run for another 31. He is a duel threat that provides the Buckeyes with a dangerous quarterback capable of winning another Heisman.
  2. Coaching- Urban Meyer is easily one of the top 2 coaches in the league competing with Nick Saban. Since becoming the head coach of the Buckeyes, Urban is 61-6 through 5 seasons. He is 38-2 against Big 10 teams and most importantly has yet to lose to The Team Up North. He has already won a championship with OSU and has led them to another CFP appearance and a win against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl in the year he failed to reach the CFP. Urban will whip this team into shape and will make them championship contenders.
  3. Poor Big 10 teams- This will be a down year for the Big 10 after a few years of having a few great teams. Last year, Penn State, Ohio State, and Michigan were all on the bubble as the CFP teams were released. This year, however, Michigan will start almost all underclassmen on defense and offense. Urban has had Harbaugh’s number in the 2 games they have gone head-to-head. Look for the Buckeyes to breeze through Big 10 competition and be a lock for the CFP.
  4. Defensive line- Last week, defensive coordinator Greg Schiano called this OSU defensive line better than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line that he coached in 2012-2013. This defensive line will be led by Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis, and Jalyn Holmes. If this wasn’t enough firepower, they will also have Nick Bosa, brother of Chargers DE and OSU legend, Joey Bosa. Another player that could see significant playing time is Tracy Sprinkle, who is returning from injury and is poised to make an impact for this uber-talented roster.

As always, GO BUCKS!
