At 91-40, and 31 games remaining, the LA Dodgers, even on the midst of a 4 game losing streak coming into Thursday’s match up with the Diamondbacks, remain hot and atop the latest MLB rankings.
Even though their current 4 game losing streak is their longest streak in almost a year, the Dodgers remain a lock to clinch the NL West in due time. Clayton Kershaw remains on the DL, although he is scheduled to start Friday against the Padres. Cody Bellinger, on the 10 day DL with an ankle sprain, just returned to action on Wednesday. With such a big lead, when do the Dodgers begin to rest their starters for their October run is the question. Adrian Gonzalez, once considered to be one of the top first baseman in the majors has returned, but at what capacity? With the National League not having a DH, Bellinger seems to have many of the starts at 1B, especially with the waiver trade acquisition of outfielder Curtis Granderson. So Gonzalez for the time being, seems to be a formidable pinch hit, situational type part time player now. Not a bad established veteran to have off the bench if you ask me.
Regardless of their final record at the end of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are far from done. Yes, they may have one of the best, if not the best, lineup and rotation top to bottom right now, but everyone knows October is all about a team making a Cinderella type run, not about who was the best team for 162 games. Time will tell, but the Dodgers look to snap out of their 4 game losing streak first, and then continue to dominate the league for September and beyond. October should be fun and entertaining for all!
