It’s my favorite time of year again, ladies and gents. The kickoff to football season is finally here. When the Pats and Chiefs kick off tonight at Gillette. It’s the time of year when everybody has hopes of doing what the Patriots did last year. It’s a great time for us football fans, as we ponder the upcoming season, we hope our teams can climb to the peak of Mt. Olympus. How many people feel they have a chance at that? My guess for that question is most, if not all. So with that being said, let’s dig into how I see things going down, shall we?
I will start with the NFC and discuss my favorites and which teams to keep your eye on. You can’t sleep on Seattle; they know how to get the job done, and usually do. What they are known for is their staunch defense, and they added another piece to that Legion of Boom in Sheldon Richardson. The Seahawks are my pick to win the NFC West.
In the NFC North, the obvious choice is the Pack, but don’t be surprised if this race gets close again. The Vikings and the Lions should make some noise here. North has been a really tight division over the last few years. With three solid teams, and one well, I think you know how that’s turned out, my prediction is still Packers.
Now let’s turn our attention to the NFC East. This division should be a true dogfight and the favorite is anybody’s guess. Alongside the NFC South, this might be one of the toughest division in football. My initial thought going into the season was that it would be the Cowboys, but with recent events surrounding Elliot, my thoughts have changed. My pick for this division now goes to the NY Giants: they should have a explosive offense and a sneakily good defense this season. But a lot can happen in the NFL. I wouldn’t totally disregard the Redskins or the Eagles, as they can easily be contenders as well. Speaking of the Redskins, pay Kirk Cousins already.
We head down South with last season’s NFC representative, the Atlanta Falcons. I won’t get into 28-3 for the sake of Falcons fans. This division should be very competitive, with the Falcons, Saints, Panthers, and Buccs. This division could go in a lot of different directions. Will Cam stay healthy? Will Drew light things up again? Will the Falcons put last years Super Bowl humiliation behind them? Will the youth in Tampa be the difference? I can’t wait to find out. This is a tough division to predict. The safe pick would be the Falcons, but I like to throw a wrench into works from time to time, so I’m going to go out on a limb: my official pick is the Panthers. I think Cam is healthy and they’re going to shock their division.
Finally, we move onto the teams to look out for in the NFC. My top pick for a team that is up and coming Tampa Bay. Do yourself a favor, and don’t sleep on Winston and the boys. The Buccs are loaded with young talent, a team on the rise, no question about it. They added Desean Jackson in the offseason to compliment Mike Evans, so look out. Another team not to be taken lightly is the Lions. I know we’ve heard this before, but they’ve been knocking on the door for awhile now. With Stafford getting a huge payday, I expect him to go out and try to show the world he’s worth that kind of money. The third team I can see making some noise is the Eagles. Will Wentz could have a Sophomore slump or make strides going forward, but the team has potential. Now keep in mind, I’m not saying these are Super Bowl contenders, just teams to keep an eye on.
There you have it, my NFC predictions for each division. I will touch on the AFC before Sunday, as tonight’s game won’t affect anything, and the Pats are the obvious pick for the East. I hope I gave everyone some things to ponder to start the new season. Good luck to all teams going forward in this NFL season. May your dreams come true of hoisting the Lombardi at the end of the year!
