Celtics Earn Their Fifth Win in a Row Against the Kawhi Leonard-less Spurs

Yes, Jimmy G got traded last night, and New England fans’ hearts shattered from Connecticut to Maine, but on the bright side, this Celtics team is riding a five-game win streak. Last night, they beat the Spurs (minus Kawhi Leonard), meaning Brad Stevens has now beat every team in the NBA at least once. He finally climbed Mount Popovich and stuck his Celtics flag at the peak.

This game seemed to be in Boston’s control the entire night thanks to Kyrie scoring a game-high 24 points while dishing out 6 assists and produced multiple highlight plays I am sure you will see on Sportscenter.

Al Horford also continued his terrific season, racking up 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 assists. Horford has definitely improved his rebounding this season, making this the fifth game in a row pulling down at least 9 boards. Kinda weird how we are on a five-game win streak as Horford is on a five-game rebounding streak, right? Almost seems as if when Horford rebounds, we win games. I say we continue this trend.

After a rough, and I mean ROUGH start, Terry Rozier finished the game with 12 points, scoring 10 in the fourth quarter all on consecutive possessions. Rookie Jayson Tatum didn’t do anything spectacular, but did pull down 11 rebounds while Jaylen Brown dropped 18 points.

As for the Spurs, role player Brandon Paul finished the night with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and an assist. Veteran Pau Gasol had 11 points and led the Spurs in both rebound (8) and assists (4). The Spurs have been without top-3 NBA player Kawhi Leonard and soon-to-be NBA Hall of Famer Tony Parker for the entire season as they continue to battle injuries. At the end of the day, they will be just fine and finish as one of the top seeds in the west, despite this three-game losing streak.

As for the Celtics, they host the Sacramento Kings tomorrow, and they’ll try to extend their win streak and climb up the eastern conference rankings. From what we have seen so far, next year when Gordon Hayward returns, this team is going to be terrifying. But for now, lets sit back and enjoy the show. Go Celtics!
