If the Badgers Win Out, Will They Make the NCAA Football Playoffs?

The Badgers got a lot of help this weekend with Georgia losing, Notre Dame getting the doors blown off and Oklahoma beating TCU and they should jump up to #5 in the College Football Playoff rankings when they get released tonight. Here are my predictions for the updated Top 5:

  1. Alabama
  2. Oklahoma
  3. Miami
  4. Clemson
  5. Wisconsin

This is a great spot for Wisconsin to be in, as Clemson and Miami will likely face-off in the ACC Championship – meaning if Wisconsin wins out, they are in. However, it won’t be as easy as it sounds. Wisconsin has a tough matchup against Michigan this week at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, and trust me when I say this: it won’t be an easy win. Michigan’s defense should give Wisconsin’s running offense some extreme difficulty forcing the Badgers to have to throw the football – leading to turnovers. If the Badgers do take care of business this weekend at home, they then have to go to freezing cold Minnesota the last week of the year. If they survive that tough game – they then earn the right to play in the Big10 Championship against most likely Ohio State.

That might come down to the ultimate whoever-wins-is-in-the-playoffs scenario, as Ohio State is still holding a very small chance to make the playoffs. I think they will need some help with maybe another one or two teams losing in front of them but I would not be surprised if that was the case. Being a Badger fan, I’d like to say that I really like our chances of making it to our first ever playoffs – but I am going to be a realist for all my readers:

The Wisconsin Badgers will not make the College Football Playoffs in 2017.

I’m sorry, but they won’t. There are too many tough games ahead for them, and I have yet to see a game where they look good for 60 minutes. I will be at the game this weekend in Madison, WI to watch them play Michigan, and I would not be shocked if Michigan came in and stole a W. However, like I said even if they do win this weekend and against Minnesota I legitimately give them a 10% chance to beat Ohio State in the Big10 Championship game.

Sorry Badger fans, it’s not going to happen this year. I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see it.
