Camaro. The name is synonymous with going fast and not driving into crowds of people like, unlike the word “Mustang”.
The new, 2019 SS Camaro, is not exactly a body style that a lot of people adore. Almost like when Chevy went form the early 5th gen look (10-13) to the later 5th gen (14-15). The growing pain years are the worst, but they lead to an awesome 6th gen look. Now, granted, a lot of people said the same thing about those, and i guarantee people come around to this 2019 new 6th gen, but there is something about this car that just looks less aggressive than all the others.
The image above shows the original 6th gen front end, with its younger brother below. Performance wise, the new look seems to increase air flow quite a bit, but it looks like the love child of a Prius and a charger.
The V8 monster SS got some hood extractor vents which are not even remotely good looking. It also gets some fascia vents, and air curtains to improve aerodynamics, reduce lift, and enhance component cooling. All cool stuff. But still not a good looking front end. The 2.0-liter turbo I4 and 3.6-liter V6 are unchanged from the previous year’s models. This year, Chevy added something in for the 6.2-liter LT1 V8. A 10 speed automatic. Yep.. 10. You can also get it, of course, with the 6 speed, but 10… good lord.
The Camaro really did get a facelift…but one from some doctor down in a Brazil alleyway. It looks butchered. Like Rob Lowe, the Camaro has always been so beautiful at so many stages of its career. There is no need to inject, cut, and hollow out parts of it in order to make it look more beautiful.
The Camaro will be ugly in its 2019 form, there is no doubting that. But no, it won’t change the iconic style of the muscle car gone sports car. It will still run that same massive engine in its SS and ZL1 options. The V6 will still have an amazing rasp. The 4cyl will be soft as always (still a stupid move by chevy). This car will probably perform better than its predecessors did off the assembly line, but the look is just not easy to take in.
I am hoping that Chevy learns form its mistakes here and makes the 2020 an absolute stud, because i will probably be upgrading from the pic below, to that year and i would like the new SS to be clean af.
