Bruins Roll Past Leafs in First Game

The Boston Bruins battled The Toronto Maple Leafs in their first meeting of a 7 game series. This matchup has a bunch of hype circling around it and for the first game it held up to it.

The first period started off fast. The Bergeron line went out there and the game started to pick up. The intensity was rocking in the Garden as the puck went up and down the ice. The Bruins came out flying and it showed when they scored one their first powerplay of the game. Marchy buried it and silenced all of the doubters saying he couldn’t do it. The Bruins and Maple Leafs had a hard-fought first period and with the time coming to a close Zach Hyman busted up past Krejci and McAvoy and put one past Rask to settle the crowd.

After the first period, the score was the same and both teams matched one another’s intensity. Entering the second period neither team gave each other any advantage. No team was giving the other an inch until The Maple Leafs stumbled a little bit and the Bruins jumped on it. On the power play once more David Backes shows some footwork as he kicked the puck to his stick out front to finish the goal to take the lead. Boston played with that lead for the rest of the period and had most of the swagger this period until they stretched their lead even more.

With 38 seconds to go in the period, Marchand pull a sweat shake in the corner and fed a pass to David Pastrnak. Pastrnak sniped the dish glove side on Anderson. Marchand was all over the ice this period being his agitating self and making plays. He even got closer to old friend Komarov as he was in a scuffle and he planted a fat kiss on his cheek.

Toronto was trying to stay in the game by killing two penalties early in the period but the Bruins kept the pressure up as Sean Kuraly bunted a puck out of the air to make it 4-1 Boston. It was clear Toronto was getting frustrated by not be able to fight back and so Kadri laid a cheap shot on Tommy Wingles against the boards. This play was dirty and there is no room in the league for this and he should be suspended at least one game.

As the game started to come down to the final minutes this one was pretty clear and Boston had this one in the bag. Then to make things official David Krejci banked one off of Anderson to make the game 5-1.

This is going to be a long series but the Bruins started it off the way they wanted to. I would assume we will see some fight back from the Leafs as they will be looking to steal a game before heading back to Toronto.

The Bruins want to close out this homestand undefeated and head to Toronto up 2-0 in the series. The Bruins got the Leafs to play their style of hockey and that really dictated the game from there. We’ll have to see if Kadri gets suspended and if Wingles or Nash or Donato will be in the lineup next game.
