Vikings Retain Key Defensive Player for 5 More Years

While the Vikings improved their offense with the signing of Kirk Cousins, they also have retained a key starter on their defense for the next five years.

The Vikings and LB Eric Kendricks have agreed to a five-year extension worth $50M. The crazy part is that half of that (25M) is guaranteed. To put that in perspective, Gronk, the best TE in the game, signed a 6-year $54M contract with only $12.92M of it being guaranteed. That’s only about 24% that is completely guaranteed.

Kendricks has definitely been a star for the Vikings and in the league. He racked up 113 total tackles in the regular season last year which was best for 15th in the league. He’s eclipsed the 100 tackle mark in each of the past two seasons while adding one interception each year.

The Vikings defense will no doubt be dangerous once again this coming year with Kendricks, Harrison Smith, Xavier Rhodes and the defensive end Everson Griffin. With this extension, they could be dangerous for a while.
