DeMarcus Cousins Explains Why he Signed to the Warriors in this Awesome Video

DeMarcus Cousins recently signed a shockingly-low 1 year, $5 million contract with the Golden State Warriors, only making their super team even more super. NBA fans and even players erupted and have been tearing the guy apart on social media, and rightfully so. Honestly, I couldn’t care less about it because it was more likely than not that the Warriors were going to win the championship again anyways, so what difference does it make if Cousins hops on for the ride. Plus, I like Boogie a lot and want him to get a ring.

Yesterday, Showtime Sports released an awesome video of Boogie making his free agency decision and his thought process behind everything. Before reading the rest of this, check out the quick video here, it’s very worth it. (NSFW cause the dude just swears every 20 secs)

You have to love how Boogie starts off the video. “Early this morning, through last night, I was f*cked up. I was up for two days straight.” I have watched this video a few times and still have zero idea why he mentions this, but it’s still wicked funny every time I rewatch.

Throughout the beginning of the video, he explained how the Pelicans didn’t give him an offer at all. How is a guy supposed to re-sign with a team that doesn’t give him an offer? You can’t blame Boogie for being mad at them and not wanting to come back when they didn’t make him a top priority. He is one of the best players in the NBA and didn’t even get an offer from a competitive playoff team. However, he did understand why he wasn’t getting offers because Cousins is coming off of a potentially career-altering injury after tearing his Achilles in January.

So if teams didn’t want to risk spending the money on Boogie, why is it such a big deal that the Warriors wanted to give him his second chance in the league? Now obviously he could be lying, but Boogie even said reaching out to the Warriors was his last option. Cousins wants to win as well as prove himself, and this quote perfectly sums that up.

“Yeah I could have probably gotten a decent contract from a bad team, but how does that help me? I’m already fighting a career ending injury. I’m not going to put myself in a bad situation to prove myself as a player.”

The video wraps up with Boogie just telling everyone in the league that he doesn’t care about them. He knew people would get mad and absolutely zero percent of him cared. Good for him. Embrace the villain role.

The thing I mostly took away from this video was how we need more uncensored content like this coming out. Enough with the cliche and textbook answers that everyone gives. Let’s see and hear what guys are actually thinking. Just imagine KG on Area 21 actually saying what he thought about players instead of complimenting everyone. Ratings would skyrocket to the moon. Anyway, if you still hate DeMarcus Cousins then get over it. If you were him, you would do the exact same thing.
