Report: Kyrie Irving is Talking About His Future in Boston “Beyond 2018-2019”

Will Kyrie Irving be playing in Boston or New York after this upcoming season? That’s the question basketball fans have been wondering over the past few weeks and months. In my mind, I couldn’t imagine Kyrie leaving the situation he’s in currently just to play for New York. The speculation is only dragged out more because Kyrie and his camp have not spoken about these reports.

Steve Bulpett from the Boston Herald may have put some of that speculation to rest. According to his Thursday column, Kyrie Irving is “quite pleased with his Celtic surroundings and has been talking about the future here beyond 2018-2019.” This comes from a source connected to Kyrie.

To Boston fans, this report should come as a sigh of relief. Personally, I have no doubt that Irving will be back in a Boston uniform next season. He’s the star of the team. He’s going to have another kickass All-Star by his side in Gordon Hayward. He has two of the brightest up-and-coming stars in the league in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. He has the team leader that holds everything together in Al Horford.

Kyrie is surrounded by teammates with little egos, and they all have one goal in mind: to win a championship. With four potential All-Stars by his side in the starting lineup, to the stacked bench led by Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier III, the Celtics are poised to make a championship run this year and for the foreseeable future, especially with Brad Stevens running charge. Kyrie appreciates the basketball guru in Brad Stevens.

Although he should be expected to opt-out of his contract next summer, that doesn’t mean he won’t come back to Boston. Kyrie knows what it takes to win a championship but now he has the ability to prove he can lead a team to multiple championships. Nothing against New York, or even Jimmy Butler, but Boston is the best team where Kyrie can continue to add to his legacy and help improve the development of his younger teammates. Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics are a perfect match.
