The Darnold Era Begins With a Bang

*facepalms* The goddamn Jets.

Now that we got that out of the way, the Sam Darnold era is officially here in New York. After this shaky start, the rookie QB from USC settled in and put on a show at Ford Field and led the Jets to a lopsided 48-17 victory over the Detroit Lions in his first career start. Darnold’s performance was highlighted by two excellent TD throws to Robby Anderson and Quincy Enunwa.

While Darnold deserves a lot of credit for looking like the franchise QB the Jets drafted him to be in this win, the real MVPs of this game were the Jets defense, who were relentless all night against Lions QB Matthew Stafford. New Jack City lived up to the nickname, intercepting Stafford five(!) times, including this impressive one by Jamal Adams, who looks like a future All-Pro at safety.

The spotlight was stolen by the defense but at the end of the night, all eyes were on Darnold, as Jets fans are now looking at the future with glee. Although he was the youngest QB ever to make his first career start, he looked like a calm and poised veteran out there. He never panicked or wavered, and because of that, Gang Green is 1-0.

Don’t sleep on the Jets. They have a young, talented QB and a talented defense that’s loaded with players who are hungry to win. I know, I know, they’re still the Jets and they still have all season to screw it up. Even so, the future is looking bright in New York, and the fans know it.

Welcome back, Fireman Ed. Welcome back.
