On Monday afternoon, the horrific Cleveland Browns traded WR Josh Gordon to the New England Patriots for a 5th round pick. Yes, you read that right! A FIFTH ROUND DRAFT PICK!!! And yes, I just said the horrific Cleveland Browns.
I know I predicted that they would make the playoffs this season, but there’s just no shot in hell. I’m sorry for getting your hopes up Browns fans, but your franchise is just a complete shit show. I really loved everything they were doing in the preseason and during Hard Knocks, but this franchise can just never get it together.
Cleveland tied with the Steelers, who had no Le’Veon Bell and Big Ben threw four interceptions because he’s washed up. In Week 2, they lost to the Saints because their kicker missed four field goals. FOUR! Zane Gonzalez was then cut the next day, which was probably the smartest Browns roster move to date.
Going into week 3, the franchise is 0-1-1. Honestly, I’d rather lose a game than end in a tie. Side note: the NFL needs to fix this overtime/tie bullshit but that’s an article for another day. A tie is almost like you went out there and played a five-hour game for nothing.
Now, at the beginning of the week, the Clowns (haha get it?) decided to trade one of their best passing threats in Josh Gordon to a perennial contender in the AFC, the New England Patriots.
Boy oh boy, am I licking my fingers after this news. After the Jacksonville Jaguars beat up on the Patriots for their first Week 2 Super Bowl victory, I was a little concerned. Not nervous, but concerned. There’s a difference.
Everyone knows that Tom Brady and the Patriots never play good in sweltering hot weather. There’s absolutely nothing to be nervous about, Pats fans. After Sunday’s game indicated a clear lack of passing threats for Brady, Pats fans started thinking about either Dez Bryant or another free agent within the football world.
News broke Sunday night and early Monday morning that the Browns were looking to trade Gordon instead of just releasing him outright. To this day, no one knows why the Browns wanted to dump the troubled receiver, but I can tell you that Patriot fans aren’t complaining.
A Pro Bowl caliber receiver for a 5th round draft pick is nothing if you ask me. On top of that, if for some reason Gordon isn’t active for at least 10 games, the Patriots get a 7th round pick AND get to keep Gordon. What were the Browns thinking? A real headscratcher to everyone in the football world. Maybe they should just change their name to the “Cleveland Clowns (two times).”
Stay off the weed!
This trade just adds to the Patriots offensive weapons and when Edelman is back from suspension, this team will continue to be the favorites in the AFC. The only problem is that Josh Gordon has to…
“STAY OFF THE WEEEEEEEED!” – Stephen A. Smith.
That’s right, we all know Gordon’s past problems with the devil’s lettuce but I think the Patriots are the only team that can keep him in check. Owner Robert Kraft and Coach Bill Belichick will handle Gordon well and will hopefully turn him back into the All-Pro receiver that he once was.
This is probably what it was like during Josh Gordon’s Uber from Logan Airport to Gillette Stadium:
