Charlie McAvoy was sent home prior to Saturday’s contest against the Canucks for medical tests. This is not a good sign because he “hasn’t been feeling right” after a hit he took in Edmonton.
Nobody knows what’s wrong yet, but the current thought is it’s a head injury and those are never good for young players. The fact that he hasn’t been feeling right and can’t say what’s wrong is never ever good. He tried to play through it, but he clearly hasn’t been the same.
Kevan Miller was also sent home with McAvoy due to a hand injury. He blocked a shot and the Bruins want to make sure that he is taken care of. He will go in for X-rays and it’ll be clearer if he needs a cast or how much time he’ll miss.
Urho Vaakanainen made his NHL debut for the Bruins filling in for McAvoy and Miller. It was his first game so he didn’t have anything special happen but he also didn’t make any huge mistakes. This kid could be a top-four defenseman for the Bruins later on in his career, but will likely be the 8th/9th defenseman now.
