From a New Yorker: Boston is Better than New York in Sports

As someone who was born and raised in New York, saying that Boston is better than New York in sports makes me feel like a traitor.

As a New Yorker, I am supposed to hate all things Boston sports-related. I am supposed to despise the Red Sox, be jealous of the New England Patriots, hate the Celtics, and not like the Bruins.

Unfortunately, I really do not feel those things. In fact, maybe I never did.

I have come to appreciate all things Boston sports. Boston is a championship sports town and is one to be admired.

For starters, the New England Patriots are dominant year in and year out. They have obviously won and been to multiple Super Bowls, they have perhaps both the great coach and greatest quarterback of all time and are a franchise that knows how to build a consistent and successful football team.

The New York Giants, on the other hand, are absolutely awful. They have had many losing seasons over the last six years, have made a lot of questionable moves, and do not seem to know how to get their heads out of the past and yet to realize that they need to move on from their glory days of 2007 and 2011.

The New York Jets, while not as bad as the Giants right now, have also been one of the league’s worst teams over what seems like the last decade. They miss the playoffs year in and year out, their coaches do not seem to know what they are doing, and their draft history, with the exception of Darnold, has been suspect.

When it comes to the Red Sox, it’s hard to ignore the success they’ve had since 2004. They have won three World Series championships, are on the verge of winning their fourth, and was Major League Baseball’s best team this year.

The Yankees, who have made the playoffs back-to-back years, fell extremely short this postseason. The team was out-managed, out hit, and looked feeble compared to the Sox.

The Mets are an absolute joke of a franchise. They’ve missed the playoffs the last three years, do not have competent ownership, and really don’t seem to know what direction to go in.

In basketball, the Celtics have a good enough team to win it all this season. Sure, they’ve gotten off to a slow start, but with the pieces they have, winning a title this year is more than a possibility for this franchise.

Both the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets are a joke. These two franchises haven’t been relevant in years and have been rebuilding for what seems like years.

Like the Celtics, the Boston Bruins have a good enough team to win the Cup this year. They really could have won it last year had it not been for a sub-par performance in the second round against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but do not be surprised if they make a good run at it this season.

The New York Rangers missed their window to win Lord Stanley. They had a great shot at it in the 2011-12, 2013-14, and 2014-15 but could not finish the job.

The New York Islanders are definitely improving, but are not quite there yet. With that said, having a new GM in Lou Lamoriello and head coach in Barry Trotz should make things move swiftly and smoothly for this franchise.

Basically put, Boston is the king of the sports world. No one else, especially New York, comes close.
