While the Bruins are looking to get David Backes and Kevan Miller back soon, they appear to be without a young star. Charlie McAvoy was placed on IR and it is retroactive back to October 18th. It appears the Bruins thought they could get McAvoy back, but he had a setback and has now ended up on the IR. He is suspected to be recovering from a concussion, like Backes, but it looks like McAvoy won’t be making a return any time soon.
Bruce Cassidy was asked about McAvoy and he really couldn’t give an answer to the questions about him, saying, “I don’t have a good answer about him right now.” McAvoy hasn’t even started skating yet and it’s not a good sign at all. If it is a concussion he’s suffering from, then it’s not encouraging to see him have a setback like this.
The Bruins have been struggling to get the puck out of the defensive zone without McAvoy, and even now since they’ve gotten Krug back. There are too many young guys on the defensive end not knowing what to do and it has cost them. They lost in Montreal and almost lost in Carolina without the young star.
