Clemson is Officially on Upset Alert!

Believe it or not but the Boston College Eagles will upset the #2 ranked team in the country on Saturday, the Clemson Tigers. That’s right. No. 16 BC, with College Gameday in Newton, gets the win over one of the “best teams in the country.”

The Eagles Are Ready for the Spotlight

Being a dark-horse all season long, Boston College is ready for the national attention and they will get it come Saturday as College Gameday will be at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is at 8pm, and be ready for the Eagles to show up, show out, and get on the board first. With pre-season Heisman hopeful running back AJ Dillon a game time decision, expect quarterback Anthony Brown to go to the air early and often during the first couple of possessions. Clemson will be slow out of the gate, getting shocked as the Eagles score on the first two possessions.

While Clemson is one of the best teams in the country, I think they are a bit overhyped. Boston College, one of Clemson’s first true tests going into the final stretch of the season, will get out to a hot start and lead big going into half.

During the second half the lead will dwindle for BC, but the Eagles will hold off a surging Clemson team, upsetting them and putting the Eagles into the Top 10 National Rankings. The toughest test for BC will be the quarterback play for Clemson from Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence is the top QB in the conference and just tears apart defenses. If BC can shut down Lawrence and keep him off the field as much as possible, I think BC’s offense can outplay Clemson’s defense (as we saw in the Texas A&M vs. Clemson game early in the season).

College Football Playoff for Boston College?

At the beginning of the season I said that Boston College would be in the College Football playoff and in the Top 4 by the end of the season. While I realize that this is now a very big stretch, it’s still possible. Sitting at 4-1 in the conference and 7-2 overall, the Eagles control their own destiny in regards of making the ACC championship. With games remaining against #2 Clemson (6-0 conference, 9-0 overall), a terrible Florida State team (2-5 conference, 4-5 overall) and a tough Syracuse squad (4-2 conference, 7-2 overall) Boston College could turn some heads and compete for a college football playoff spot by the end of the year. If the Eagles win out, they will hold the tie breaker with Clemson and end up with a 7-1 conference record and an overall 10-2 overall record, making the ACC championship game with an opportunity to finish 11-2, being ranked in the Top 10, possibly Top 5-7 in the country.

Why a Playoff Spot is a Long Shot for the Eagles

What really hurts BC if they were to win out and finish the season at 10-2, the best record in the Atlantic ACC division would be their opponent in the ACC championship game. With the Atlantic Coast Conference being a primarily weak conference in college football, the Eagles opponent probably wouldn’t be good enough to push the BC into a College Football Playoff spot. As it stands now, the representative of the Coastal division for the ACC championship would either be Pitt, Virginia or possible Virginia Tech who all sit just around a .500 overall record. While it is certainly a push for BC to make a CFB playoff spot, crazier things have happened.

Prediction: Boston College- 41 Clemson- 34

Huge game from BC Quarterback Anthony Brown as the Eagles shock the College Football world. That’s simply a fact! Thanks for reading and don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and Twitter– @jcmoore19.
