With it looking more and more like that superstar forward Artemi Panarin will not be staying with the Columbus Blue Jackets after this season, the New York Rangers need to do everything they possibly can to get him.
Panarin, who is only 27 years-old, would be an unbelievable addition to this hockey club for next season. There are many reasons why this would be a really smart idea for the Blueshirts.
For starters, the fact that he is really young means that the team would have him in his best years. Not only can he grown into a more mature player with the franchise, but he can grow with the array of youngsters and prospects that organization has.
Secondly, there is no denying what an unbelievable offensive talent he is. This is why it would be such a huge blow to the Blue Jackets to lose him.
Panarin has 55 points in (19 goals and 36 assists) in 46 games. He’s more than a point-per-game player and the truth is that he has been that way his entire career.
In 289 career games, the “Bread Man” has 286 points (107 goals and 179 assists). In his three-and-a-half seasons in the league, he has posted point totals of 77, 74, 82, and 53 this seasons.
This means that in terms of consistency, he is one of the best players out there. It is not easy in this league to put up these kinds of numbers every year and yet, Panarin finds a way to do so.
With the Rangers already having solid point producers like Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, Pavel Buchnevich, and a few others, adding a guy like Panarin would be a great offensive addition to this hockey club. He’s a guy that could lead the team in points for many years should the Blueshirts decide to throw big money at him in the off season.
Secondly, he would be a big help to this team’s power play. There is a chance that this team is going to lose the likes of both Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Hayes, both guys who are solid contributors with the extra man, either at the deadline or during the off season.
If that ends up happening, they are going to need Panarin. He currently has 74 career power play points and with numbers like that, the Blueshirts need to get him.
He also has an unbelievable amount of skill. He can pick corners, he has a terrific shot, he can dangle with the best of them, and he has a ton of speed.
Going forward, the Rangers are going to need guys like this. Yes, a bunch of their players have a lot of skill, but they do not have elite skill like Panarin does.
If the Rangers want to get back to being contenders, they need to have a superstar like Panarin on their club and for the long-term. I realize that signing big-time players has not always worked for the Rangers, but I believe that Panarin was born for the spotlight.
There’s no better spotlight than the ones on Broadway.
