Its no secret that the Duke Blue Devils are the most superior team in college basketball on paper. Statistics don’t lie. The Blue Devils have players putting up NBA numbers. The starting five for Duke is one of the scariest things another team can look at. As Coach Herb Brooks once said, “I’m not looking for the best players I’m looking for the right ones”. The Blue Devils may have a couple of the best players in certain positions, but they certainly are all the best when they play together. The chemistry is outrageous with this team and it all stems from the core four, of freshman.
Tre Jones, Zion Williamson, Cam Reddish and RJ Barret are the core four of freshman and they run college basketball right now. The four of them can do anything they want. Even though they have fallen twice to opponents, no team in college basketball is undefeated. As March Madness approaches, Duke will easily be at the top of most brackets. Duke should be at the top now, but the two in the loss column doesn’t help there case. What I find the most remarkable is the fact that they are just freshman. 18, 19 year old’s playing in a league with some teams that have been together for 2-3 years. 22 games together and they are ranked 2nd and have the best odds of winning the whole thing.
Duke is also looked at as most vulnerable because of the fact they’re freshman. Coach K has other ideas. Coach K has coached this team to play as if they have been together for years. Duke is scary on the court. The way they move, pass, shoot, bring the ball up and especially play defense. Each of the core four have an average of 2.0 steals per game (RJ Barret 1.0) and they have a way of not only winning games, but humiliating opponents. This Saturday, all of this is put to the test once again as the Duke Blue Devils take on #3 ranked Virginia who most people have winning this one. I believe the Blue Devils do it on the road and in great fashion.
