The Patriots are Pissing Me Off Again

There are approximately zero people who hate the Patriots more than I do. I don’t know if it’s the delusional fanbase, the cocky attitude, or the constant winning, but there isn’t a franchise I want to see fail more than the New England Patriots. That’s why watching them operate as tactically as they do keeps me up at night and that has never been on display more than today.

Austin Seferian-Jenkins, known affectionately as ASJ, is a 6′ 5″ big body of a bust at tight end. Expectations were high for the former 2nd round pick, but he never quite panned out the way Tampa Bay (and later the Jets) hoped. However, there are signs that the veteran could catch on in the right setting. He averages a healthy 10.0 yards per catch for his career, which is exactly what you’re looking for in a chain moving tight end. He also can bring the physicality needed to make blocks and shed defenders. While I don’t think he can replace Gronkowski, he can certainly lead the platoon under Belichick. Unrelated, but this was totally a touchdown. God damn, I hate the Patriots.

The other two moves are also intriguing. There didn’t seem to be much left in the Demaryius Thomas tank last year, but maybe Belichick sees something we don’t. I personally would be surprised Thomas ends up signing though.

TJ Yeldon is a much different story. How the fuck was this guy not already on the Patriots. He isn’t much of a runner, but he is explosive catching the ball out of the backfield. Remind you of anybody? (Hint: Rex Burkhead and James White) There isn’t a single team better at supplementing their running game with short passes than the Patriots and Yeldon makes them better at it.

These are the types of moves that build championship teams. Free Agency is never won in the first rush, it’s won with the low-risk high-reward guys and New England does it better than anybody. God Fucking Damn It.
