Dan Snyder is Going to Ruin Washington…Again

Reports flew in Wednesday night that Washington Redskin’s owner, Dan Snyder, is taking over the teams draft room for the first round with the intent on drafting a franchise quarterback.

The Redskins are likely going to be unable to grab the first overall pick, so any moves into the top 5 are likely for Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins. With Oakland reportedly infatuated with Haskins, Washington would likely have to jump to number 3 to get him. This move is allegedly wildly unpopular among the Redskin’s coaching staff

For reference, the last time Snyder commandeered a draft room, he traded two 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick to the Rams to move up 4 spots and select Robert Griffin III in 2012. This year, moving into the top 5 requires jumping at least 12 teams. Expect any potential deal to involve multiple firsts and multiple seconds, maybe even more.

Haskins appears to have the tools necessary to become a starting QB in the NFL but is far from a generational talent. Trading away a kings ransom worth of picks for above average quarterback play is asinine. The Redskins are better off selecting a pass rusher, a receiver, or another area of need. Especially considering how bad the Redskins are likely to be even with Haskins and the talented QB class coming out next year. Tua Tagovailoa, Jake Fromm, and Justin Herbert are all better prospects than Dwayne Haskins and at least two of them are likely available when the Redskins would pick next year.

Moral of the story is Snyder hired a GM for a reason. Trust him to do his job and stop trying to ruin the franchise.
