Last night, John Havlicek passed away at the age of 79. Havlicek was a Boston Celtic legend and was well known across the league. The hall of famer had himself quite the career, finishing with eight championships, all team NBA four times, 13 time all star and finals MVP once (1974). Havlicek played from 1962-1978 and in 1962 was selected 7th overall. Havlicek ended his career with a stat line of,
PTS, 20.8 | TRB, 6.3 | AST, 4.8
It is a very sad day across the NBA and Boston. We stay goodbye to legend and a great man. God bless his family in his time. Other NBA legends took to Twitter last night to pay respects.
I met John Havlicek at the same time & place that I met Red Auerbach & Bill Russell @ my high school gym in Autumn of 1961 – my freshman year. He was still playing when I entered the league & our friendship grew… #17 will always be class act! RIP @NBA
Just spoke with Jerry West on the passing of John Havlicek. “The thing with John, he competed against you at the highest level and he wanted to win badly,” West tells ESPN. “But he was always a really nice person. I don’t think that I ever heard anyone say a bad word about John.”
It is getting difficult each time I hear about another contemporary that passes! What is harder is when we lose guys like John Havlicek, he was not just a teammate & a great guy, but he was family. That is how our @celtics teams were. #RIP Hondo @NBA #RIPJohnHavlicek @NBAonTNT 23.1K 10:48 PM – Apr 25, 2019
