The goddamn Jets are at it again. The team has announced that they have fired general manager Mike Maccagnan effective immediately. New head coach Adam Gase will serve as the new GM on an interim basis.

While this is somewhat shocking considering the timing of the move, it is not that surprising. Maccagnan’s tenure with Gang Green has been extremely underwhelming, with poor drafting, free agent signings, and personnel decisions keeping New York out of the playoff picture.
It seems puzzling that Maccagnan was allowed to stay to oversee the hiring of Gase, free agency, and the NFL Draft; however, the Jets likely have their reasons for making this move now, which we’ll likely learn about in the coming days.
Nevertheless, with a young quarterback like Sam Darnold and an emerging defense loaded with talent, the Jets GM job will likely be an attractive one. New York fans can only hope that CEO Christopher Johnson will hire the right guy to keep the team trending in the right direction and end their long misery.
