Meet the Real Winner of the Stanley Cup Finals

Meet Scott Berry. Scott is a big St. Louis Blues fan who, like many, got to witness his favorite team win the Stanley Cup last night. He is also last night’s biggest winner.

It seems like forever ago that the Blues were dead last in the NHL standings in early January. At that time, everyone thought their season was done. You would’ve been crazy to believe that this team could actually win the Stanley Cup. Luckily for Scott Berry, he was crazy. Crazy enough to bet real money that it would happen.

In January, Berry walked into the Paris Las Vegas Casino and placed a $400 bet on his favorite team to win it all. At that time, the Blues were a 250-1 odds to win the Stanley Cup. If you do the math, that’s a $100,000 payout. That’s a lot of money.

When Berry made this bet, people thought he was throwing $400 for nothing. Many, myself included, thought it would’ve been a wise decision for him to hedge his bet so he would still walk away with something. However, like Blues’ rookie goaltender Jordan Binnington did so many times this season, Berry stood tall and did not yield, and the rest is history

The Blues went on an improbable and magical run to close out the regular season and carried that magic in the Stanley Cup playoffs. On several occasions, it appeared that they would be destined for another early exit, but that never came to fruition and then last night, it finally happened.

And just like that, Scott Berry, who five months ago seemed like a madman, was now $100,000 richer.

Scott Berry is the true definition of never giving up on what you believe in, even when people call you crazy for it. This morning, he woke up a winner. Perhaps the biggest winner in the city of St. Louis.

Enjoy it, Scott. Enjoy every last second of it.
