An Interview with a Passionate Barstool Sports Fan

It is quite clear that Barstool Sports is all the rage these days.

El Pres, a.k.a. Dave Portnoy has taken this company to extreme heights since starting out as a newsletter in 2004. They are everywhere these days and a company that all digital startups/companies should look up to.

One such fan that truly appreciates this is Sirius Steve. He’s a young dude that loves the company inside and out and believes what Dave is doing in.

He was kind enough to take some time to tell us about how he became a sports fan, how he started following Barstool, and why he admires Portnoy.

PH: How did you become a sports fan?
SS: Sports have been a huge part of my family for as long as I can remember. My brother was always playing sports like soccer and basketball, and being the younger brother, I wanted to be just like him, so I played them too.

PH: Who are some of your favorite teams and players?
I’m a little bit of an odd mashup of things as I like the Celtics, Bruins, and Jets.

If I had to pick my two favorite athletes of all time it would have to be Kevin Garnett and Cristiano Ronaldo.

PH: It is clear that based on your Twitter feed, you are a huge Barstool Sports fan. How did you become a fan of their outlet?
I first had heard of Barstool once again, because of my brother. He was a junior in high school when he really started to get into it, so I checked it out too and really liked it. I was in 6th grade at the time (That sounds a little crazy when I type it out).

PH: You also mentioned on Twitter that Dave Portnoy is your idol. What are some of the qualities you hope to gain from him?
I mean there are so many to choose from, but a big one that I would have to say is being persistent. He started the company in 2004 and was slinging newspapers in the train station next to homeless people and kept on working at it, eventually turning it into the media powerhouse that it is today and he continues to try and succeed at making it bigger and bigger.

PH: Besides Dave, who are some of your favorite personalities at Barstool? Why?
I really do enjoy them all since they all bring something unique to the table, but if I had to list a few it would be KFC, Feits, Big Cat, and PFT on the podcasting side of things and Francis and Large.

For the blogging side of things because those are just who make me laugh the most and they put out a lot of content. Also have to give a shoutout to my Team Portnoy guys in Tommy, Frankie, YP, and Zah.

PH: If you were to ever get a gig at Barstool, what do you think you could do for them?
Whatever they needed me to do to in order to own the moon. The Team, The Team, The Team.

PH: Is there anything else that you’d like to share with us?
Just a thank you to you for asking me to do the interview.
