The biggest fish of the offseason, AL Cy Young runner-up Gerrit Cole, has signed with the New York Yankees. The deal was first reported by Jon Heyman at 11:57 PM for 9 years, and $324 million. This contract breaks both the record for highest AAV for a free agent contract for a pitcher, and total money, both of which were held by Stephen Strasburg’s 7-year, $245 million deal signed earlier this week. The other finalists for Cole were reported as the Dodgers, Angels, Astros, and even the Giants. Ultimately, however, Cole decided to sign with the Yankees. The deal will have him under contract until his age 38 season.
