Joe Girardi Hired as Phillies’ Manager

Multiple sources reported and confirmed that Joe Girardi has been hired as the Philadelphia Phillies manager. Girardi was the manager of the Yankees from 2008 to 2017, winning a World Series title in 2009, and never finishing below 84 wins in a season. Before his managerial career, Girardi spent 15 years as a catcher in the majors. His most memorable years came as a Yankee, where he won three World Series rings as a player in four seasons from 1996-1999. Many people reported that Girardi had a great round of interviews with the Phillies in the past few weeks, and they loved him enough to hire him. The Phillies fired Gabe Kapler after this season, mainly because the Phillies, who acquired Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen, JT Realmuto, and Jean Segura this offseason, didn’t make the postseason despite some people (me) picking them to win the World Series. The Phillies hope that Girardi can propel the Phillies back to the postseason for the first time since 2011.
