I’ve started blogs with this quote before, but, as the legendary WWE announcer Jim Ross once said, “YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT AN ASSWHOOPIN’!!”
The Braves and Cardinals just squared off in a win or go home game five of the NLDS. The Braves, whom were HEAVILY favored going into this series, would be playing in front of their home crowd and were sending postseason workhorse Mike Foltynewicz to the mound. Mark Melancon even came out and shared one of the most epic pump-up videos you will ever see before the game started.

I mean how can you not be ready to run through a brick wall after that?
Everything lined up perfectly for them to stomp the Cardinals out and advance to the NLCS. Then the complete opposite of that happened.

Mike Foltynewicz recorded one out and allowed six (6) earned runs. Max Fried came in to ‘limit the damage’ and allowed an additional four runs. By the end of the top of the first inning, the Cardinals were up TEN (!!!!!!!) TO ZERO. Every single member of the Cardinals lineup scored a run in the first inning alone, an MLB postseason record. And just like that, the game was over. Cardinals manager Mike Shilt made defensive replacements for the bottom of the first, an absolutely laughable move. There was serious discussion if Cardinals ace Jack Flaherty should even start today’s game and just rest up until game one of the NLCS. And in all honestly, Flaherty going six innings of one-run baseball was basically just shoving it down the throats of the Atlanta faithful.
The Cardinals ROLLED 13-1 and will go on to play the winner of the Nationals and Dodgers.
Raise your hand if you had the Cardinals in the NLCS at the beginning of the year. Also, raise your hand if you thought that they would beat down the Atlanta Braves THIRTEEN TO ONE in a decisive game five on the road to get there. Literally no one said that and no one could’ve EVER predicted this happening.
Games like this are why MLB twitter is the best during the postseason.
