Top 10 Christmas Songs of All Time

Enough is enough. It is finally time to talk about a topic near and dear to my heart: Christmas music.

There are very few things in life that I love more than Christmas music. Listen, if you hate Christmas music then I will personally pay for your one-way ticket to Christmas hell to go visit your pals Ebenezer Scrooge and the Grinch. Christmas music is the happiest music on the planet and quite possibly the universe. Aliens could be bumping Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” for all we know.

So without further ado, we need to break down the top 10 Christmas songs ever of all time in the history of ever.

(All complaints can be sent to @WTPscotch, lets flood that guy’s mentions)

10. Holly Jolly Christmas – Burl Ives

Going to have to lead this off with “Holly Jolly Christmas.” This song will instantly put you in a good mood no matter what is happening. It is also a big-time Christmas party song. You can see it now, your aunt on her 6th glass of wine belting this song in the kitchen while every watches on wondering when she will stop. At the end of the day, this is a great song.

9. Its Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas – Michael Bublé

I could have put this whole Christmas album on the list but decided to just stick with this one. Bublé has pipes, simple as that. He only comes out about once a year with his Christmas jams, but they are just so good that nobody is really complaining. Bublé is defrosting as we speak and in no time his voice will be pouring out of car speakers and iPhones everywhere.

8. Little Drummer Boy – The Harry Simone Chorale

Look, I have only been alive for 20 years, but over that time I have never heard anyone have the same opinion about this song. Some people love it while others think it stinks out loud. It is time for someone to make the final decision on this song and that someone is me. This song is good. It is very good in fact. Yeah, the whole religious storytelling aspect part is pretty cool, but you can’t tell me that this song doesn’t ooze Christmas spirit. If you don’t do the drumming part of this song on your steering wheel, then you are not listening to this song correctly.

7. Let it Snow – Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra…they both kill it

If you are from any area of the country where it snows, you probably hate it. From shoveling, to traffic, to ice on the roads, snow kind of stinks. However, if you don’t want it to snow around Christmas time, then you are a certified psychopath. Snow on Christmas is awesome! Martin and Sinatra both kill it in this song. I tried to choose between the two but couldn’t, so here are both versions.

6. Jingle Bell Rock – Bobby Helms

Really not much to say about this song other than it is a banger. I am pretty sure this is a universally loved Christmas song. Jingle Bell Rock almost forces you to turn up the volume and sing. 10/10.

Time to enter the most important part of the list. As Drake (noted songwriter and Christmas music listener) would say *clears voice* “Top 5 Top 5”

5. Do They Know it’s Christmas Time – Band-Aid

I really do not know where everyone else stands with this song, but I love it. This is arguably my favorite Christmas song ever, and I don’t really know why. It has a good message to it and it just sounds like gold. It also has arguably the best chorus out of any Christmas song out there with “Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?” This could possibly be the most controversial spot on the list, but you’re just lucky I did not put this at No. 1.

4. So This is Christmas – John Lennon

I used to HATE this song when I was a kid because it sort of symbolized Christmas was over. However, as I grew up and actually started listening to the lyrics and what have you, this song skyrocketed to the top of my list. Very few songs give me literal goosebumps, but this is absolutely one of them.

3. Baby, it’s Cold Outside – Johnny Mercer and Margaret Whiting

Tough time for this song as it is being banned on radio stations across the country. People are the worst nowadays. It is 2018 so there is a problem with literally everything. Look, there are definitely some controversial lines in this song, but I will die on the hill of “Baby it’s Cold Outside” is very good. Nothing is more difficult than trying to sing it by yourself and hitting both sides of the song, only the elite few can do such a thing. Also, the scene in Elf when they sing this song is one of the most memorable scenes in Christmas movie history, so that heavily weighs into this decision of putting it at No. 3.

2. All I Want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey

I reallllllly did not want to put this song so high up on the list, but I had no other choice, this song is unbelievable. I personally think it is kind of overrated, but when you put it head to head against other Christmas songs, Mariah Carey stuffs the other songs in a locker and wins that battle. This is the Christmas version of Mo Bamba in the way that if you are at a party or a bar and this song comes on, it is game over. I think everyone is just born knowing every single lyric to this song. However, it is not the greatest Christmas song out there.

1. Santa Claus is Coming to Town – Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen takes the cake with the best Christmas song of all time. On a scale of 1-10, this clocks in at a 10000000000. Yes, this is better than All I Want for Christmas is You, so pipe down. You can’t convince me that this is not the best song in the game. I am going to be honest, this is the first song I think of when I hear the name, Bruce Springsteen. The fact that he is a megastar and a Christmas song is arguably his best song out there solidifies his spot at the top.

There you have it, the best ten Christmas songs out there. Sure I left some out that were borderline top 10, but I am very confident in my list. Actually, I take that back, someone is definitely going to say “How could you leave ___ off of this list?” and I am going to have to rethink everything. That is the beauty of Christmas music though, almost every single song is great.

Let me know what you guys think and Merry Christmas!
