Tyler Seguin in Boston Again?

As training camp slowly approaches, the Dallas Stars and Tyler Seguin have been discussing a contract extension; however, the talks have since stalled. Seguin is reportedly disappointed in the stalled talks, and it seems that he could be hitting the open market come next July.

The cloudy future of Seguin has left many wondering what will happen if he hits the free agency? If he continues his superstar-caliber play, he” likely be the most coveted player on the market as John Tavares was this season. With that being said, would the Bruins, a team who pursued Tavares, consider a reunion with Seguin?

Seguin still has connections in Boston, the team who drafted him second overall in 2010. He still has good friends on the team such as Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, who would likely welcome him back with open arms. Don’t forget that it was Peter Chiarelli and Claude Julien who traded Seguin away in 2013, so you have to wonder if Don Sweeney would consider bringing Seguin in.

There are some questions with Seguin that cause some concern. He is going to be asking for Tavares-type money, and rightfully so, but that’s tough for any team to bring in. They would need to clear some space, and if they were willing to do it for Tavares. then they should also be willing to do it for Seguin.

There are also some concerns about Seguin’s consistency and clutch capability. Yes, he’s been elite for Dallas, but when push came to shove, Seguin was MIA. He hasn’t been able to consistently lead Dallas to the playoffs in his time there. I don’t think Sweeney or Cam Neely would want to invest big money in a guy who isn’t clutch. Still, hockey is a team sport and it wasn’t always on Seguin. A change of scenery could do wonders.

Seguin will definitely be a name to keep an eye on for the next year or so. If the Bruins can’t get over the hump again because of a lack of scoring, then it may be time to back the truck up to Seguin’s doorstep. Hopefully, come next July, Tyler Seguin will be wearing black and gold once again.
